Sweating, shaking, hyperventilating, feeling inexplicably panicked or nervous…

These are just some of the uncomfortable symptoms of anxiety. Sometimes it can be unbearable, and make even the most routine daily tasks feel impossible. There are some prescription medications that help ease the symptoms, but they come with their own problematic side effects. Valium and Xanax for example can cause exhaustion and dizziness, and are highly addictive, not to mention expensive!

CBD oil, on the other hand, offers a natural solution for those who suffer from anxiety.  The oil is made by extracting CBD from a cannabis plant and is then diluted, usually with hemp or coconut oil. The taste is not for everyone but is a small price to pay for decreased anxiety symptoms.

Research studies into CBD have found very few or no side effects whatsoever, making it the perfect alternative for people who struggle with addiction, or cannot tolerate the other negative side effects of prescription medication. Many people who were once opposed to cannabis products are coming around to embracing the natural healing agent.

A recent case study in Colorado reviewed 47 patients who suffered from anxiety. After the first of the three-month study, almost 80% of patients reported an improvement in anxiety. And if you’re worried about having to trade your anxiety symptoms for feeling “high”, worry not! There are many CBD products on the market that are derived from hemp plants (instead of marijuana) which don’t cause a “high” sensation but still have the same relaxing properties.

THC is the element of cannabis that causes the high, so the higher the THC content in the CBD oil, the “higher” you will feel. Easy to remember! Finding products with low THC is easy, as most people are looking for relief without an altered state of mind.

THC levels are posted on every government-approved cannabis product, which can be found at legal dispensaries across the country. They are represented with a range (ie. 0.0-30.0 mg/bottle), so you can start with a very low THC product and see how the oil affects you, then go from there.

Anxiety is now very commonly treated with CBD oil.

While dispensary staff are not medical professionals, they will likely be able to help you get started with a CBD oil for your anxiety.

It’s important to note that trace amounts of THC may show up on a drug test, and almost all CBD oil products will contain trace amounts. Unfortunately, even if you haven’t experienced any change to your state of mind, the drug test may not reflect that. If you are applying for jobs or work in an environment where drug tests occur regularly, it’s worth speaking to your employer about this in advance. As the use of CBD oil for anxiety and other health issues becomes more widely used, and the legalization of marijuana becomes less of a novelty, employers will become more likely to relax about its medicinal uses.

On that note, it’s strongly advised that you look up the laws of any country or region that you plan to travel to. Remember that Canada is one of the only countries to legalize cannabis nationwide. Some areas of the United States and many other countries around the world may not grant you entry to (or even transit through) the country with CBD oil, even if it’s been purchased legally in Canada.

It’s not just a miracle drug for anxiety either, studies have shown the effects of CBD oil to decrease tremors for patients with Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, insomnia, chronic pain, and many more. Some people have even used CBD oil to help decrease the anxiety levels of their dogs! It really has had some incredible results in recent years as more studies have explored its effects.

It’s interesting that for one of the first times in history it’s the public, not scientists or doctors, that have determined the positive effects of a substance. It’s those citizens who dared to use and experiment with an illegal drug, fought to legalize it, and ultimately have it deemed medicinal. It’s a good thing they did because it’s now helped so many people!

Anyone looking to manage their anxiety with CBD oil should note that while the results reported by average users and academic studies thus far have all come up with stellar reviews, the data on long-term use of CBD oil is limited. It’s relatively new to the market so researchers have not had the opportunity to study long-term effects. It’s hard for researchers to study the effects of an illegal substance on patients! But it is widely agreed that short-term treatment has received consistently positive feedback.

Of course, the perfect dosage will vary from person to person. It will depend on a myriad of factors including age, height, weight, ancestry, previous experience/familiarity with recreational marijuana, and many more. A trial and error approach to choosing the right CBD oil for you will likely be necessary before deciding what works best for you. Fortunately, marijuana products are virtually impossible to overdose on, so especially when experimenting with low THC products, there is very little that can go wrong.

Recreational marijuana has a reputation for making users feel dopey or lethargic, especially the way it’s been portrayed in movies and TV shows. But many CBD oil users report feeling more clear-headed. For anxiety, it reduces or eliminates entirely that awful feeling of impending doom, misplaced stress, and a racing heartbeat. It absorbs into the body quickly and can provide almost immediate relief.

The cost of these products is regulated by the government but still, vary quite significantly. Some CBD oils can be purchased for as little as $20, while others are upwards of $100 for the same sized bottle.

Depending on the potency and method of ingestion, CBD oil can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 days. 2 days is pretty extreme and much less common. It’s more likely that you will benefit from the effects for around 4-6 hours.

Depending on the frequency that you use the product, a 30ml bottle can last up to 6 months. If you use it every day, you will, of course, need to purchase it more frequently.

If you suffer from anxiety

Purchasing government-approved CBD oil is a safe way to explore an alternative option to strong and addictive prescription medications like Xanax. Start with a low dosage to see how CBD oil affects you. You may find it’s the miracle medicine you’ve been looking for!
